$NVDA chart on Commonstock
Amazing to me how a company can beat earnings significantly yet still fall...

would love to see if there was anything out of the earnings call that drove this because it looks like guidance beat consensus. maybe it's just the tyranny of high expectations?

"oh so you beat & raised earnings, again $NVDA? DO YOU THINK THAT'S GOOD ENOUGH? MEDIOCRE!!!"

What makes me smart: my investor stack
Happy (belated) New Year, Commonstock. I’m excited for this upcoming earnings season because we get to see (and hear) about the health of our favorite companies over the course of the whole year rather than just the quarter (10K szn 😎). Ahead of the massive onslaught of earnings we are getting over the next few weeks, I’m going to share my stack- enjoy!

Fundamental analysis:

My notes - Perks of being a finance major, I have almost all the standard equations in my notes from my introductory finance classes. I know not everyone has this luxury, but I reference these to make sure my thesis is still in tact.
Market info:

The Journal - It’s very hard to ignore the impact of the Journal. It’s very easy to keep up to date and not get bogged down in non-financial news.

Bloomberg Terminal - Student perk, as my university has BT access. Sadly I will lose access in May after I graduate, but it’s a nice thing for now.

Investor relations emails - No one likes getting more emails than they need to, but having companies ping your inbox with valuable SEC documents (accessible via SEC Edgar as well) or press announcements is super convenient. I also recommend reading the investors page for each company prior to investing in them.

Commonstock 😌 - You all know the drill here. There is so much knowledge being shared by so many incredibly bright people. Signal > noise.

I don’t personally use charts super often; I often skim charts for a quick visualization. However, Koyfin is a fantastic charting website if you want more visual aids.

That’s about it- feel free to ask me anything in the comments!

Shared this on Twitter yesterday, but wanted to get valuable input from the Commonstock community:

thinking about doing an independent study for my last finance class focusing on web3 / defi / etc... chatted with a professor yesterday & he said there's not really any research being done in this area at gw [which is where I go to school].

Ooh I’d deff recommend “The Blockchain and the New Architecture of Trust” by Kevin Werbach, as well as “The Inevitable” by Kevin Kelly. Kevin Werbach’s book can be a bit dry, but it really explores the capabilities of blockchain

$AAPL reporting after-hours today, what are our predictions and what do we want insight on?

Personal insight I'm looking forward to: how the iOS privacy changes have impacted Apple after hearing about $FB, $SNAP, & $TWTR ...

@josh10/28/2021
I wonder if the number of new Mac's bought will be reported in this quarter. My UPS driver dropped it off at around 8 pm, said he's been delivering them all day, and still had some in his truck.

$SNAP is trading (very) down right now. Am I worried? No, long term growth isn't going to always be linear, up & to the right. Hiccups happen, but this isn't the beginning of the end for Snap.

(Im)patiently waiting for the call to gain more context on growth numbers and the impact $AAPL had. Given that $AAPL reports next week, I want to see how the numbers look on their side for the same issue.

My $SNAP swing for earnings didn't pan out too well, luckily it was a small position... But this may be a good sign for $AAPL shareholders (I am) and a nice opportunity for an earnings swing on them.

Should've never sold all those months ago ... back again and not selling for a while.

Also, we covered $KO in depth in a class last week and it made me even more confident about this position :)
