Celsius (the crypto nio-bank and lender), imploded June 2022 and has been in bankruptcy proceedings ever since.
One of the tens of thousands of people who lost their funds got this text last night:
There are a number of reasons why this is a fairly believable text, showing that these scammers did their homework:
1) Stretto is the case management platform that the Celsius' bankruptcy is being administered trough.
2) On court documents, July 17th (yesterday) was one of the original proposed dates to wrap- up the Celsius case. Its not done yet, but it's understandable if you let your guard down a little because this was a date there was potential to hear news.
3) $117,468 is the accurate amount for this particular claim. The sender seems to have specific context on this claimee. (Which was likely obtained through publicly available court documents where claimee's could see and verify their claim had been received).
4) 35% is enough that people would still want to see how to get their funds. It's a believable outcome for a bankruptcy like this.
5) The URL is very similar to the actual Celsius website, which is clsius.network, not withdraw-celsius.network
If you email the lawyers managing the case, they will tell you that the above is a phishing attempt.
Stay safe out there.
