should we invest in commonstock.com?
Facts:
- it's a very laggy website running off aws. best guest so far is google fonts is taking too long to fingerprint us or it's just slow with all the headers trying to track everything....
- it seems like they outsourced some data collection with mixpanel and sendbird (for chatting) so the team is still a small one
- its got questionable security....maybe look at "kong" but haven't found anything definitively bad...just wondering why have plaintext passwords....routed thru heroku dns service....are the intermediaries highly trusted?
- looks like most people leave their website immediately so the userbase must be around 7k, at least, more than half of users are reporting as americans.
Thesis:
- recent fundraising efforts must mean the big boys would love to be able to gleam data off social media. meme stocks can be very profitable!
- becoming the social media platform of stocks is definitely a profitable idea! Usually you'll want $25mil to farm enough reliable customer behavior data so that you can sell at a profit. Fundraising 9mil for a website gpt-3 can write must have already been extremely profitable. Imagine getting all the data and insights without having to park yourself between the clearinghouse and retail investor!! Very profitable but this company must have huge risks with this sort of security. Selling this sort of data on the way to the big payout totally sounds like a feasible, scalable, sustainable business model.
- 160k salaries? 3 year deadline? Might cost 3mil if they keep it at 6 employees, so maybe they're looking to grow the userbase from 5k a month to 50k by end of the year. 10k users might be enough to break even if the users are thoroughly engaged and their data is worth selling. just imagine guessing insider info to trade with! What a great loophole!
- low maintenance costs...it's all being tested right now during beta! we're going to help them figure out how to keep costs low! but the marketing...how can you grow this many users and keep them here? great challenge but nothing 5mil cant solve.
- all they need is an ai to write pump and dumps from tableau reports and bam, their userbase will get hooked. random real humans will want to jump in and contribute just for social media "clout". it'll be amazing if they can monetize financial research the way youtube is creating streaming superstars! commonstock.com will be able to scrape all the research, and then make good buys....and it wouldn't infringe on the patents that renaissance already has. another great loophole!
