Why $AAPL kept the outdated Lightning port on the new iPhone 13?

Licensing. Apple charges a $4 fee for each Lightning accessory produced. It can charge this because Lightning is a proprietary technology

One rumor that lingers is the “portless” iPhone. No Lightning or USB-C. Why? This allows Apple to make MagSafe (another Apple-owned standard) the only way to charge the phone & continue to rake in extra cash off accessories

(Apple’s MagSafe charger outputs up to 15W power. Belkin's 7.5W)

Honestly I’m just happy they brought back the HDMI port and some other ports for their new laptops. It’s so annoying that you have to buy extra adapters for the generation of laptops before. But clearly, they’re in the money-making business so they don’t care lol

@sidnistandard I bought the iPhone 13 and I wondered why they didn’t put a USB-C port

Then I assumed that they’re keeping it for iPhone 14 but it seems that they’ll go directly to MagSafe. 😩
