During my quarterly portfolio review in October 2021 I had some holdings that needed trimmed that I was not necessarily interested in flat out selling at that time -
$CMA in my Taxable brokerage and
$VEA and
$VWO in my Roth IRA. These holdings had met my criteria for minimum holding period and were overweight.
I instead opted to implement a stop loss for the intended percentages I wanted to trim the holdings. Yesterday my stop losses hit for
$VEA and
$VWO which were set at 15% from their high.
I ended up securing gains and retaining a majority of my position in each.
The capital I generated from these sales will allow me to buy more dividend paying assets in my Roth IRA.
I feel much more content with yesterday's stop losses than I was with the
$CMA stop loss in January. You can read my summary of my
$CMA stop loss
here.
It is still TBD if I will implement this strategy again.
