One of my favorite times of the year! A lot going on this week. Excited about Netflix, Ally, Lithia, and of course $TSLA. Most importantly everyone can stop talking about the Fed and macro situations and focus on individual companies at least not as much.

Earnings Season also reminds me of the investor featured in Jack Schwager's "Unknown Market Wizards" book. The investor, Pavel Krejci from the Czech Republic, makes his living off of investing in stocks during earnings. Pavel would look at the volume and records from previous earnings reports to judge how to play the stock. I believe he would buy shares of the stock and then sell for a quick profit after their earnings boost. The book didn't go into as much detail as I would have liked about how he made his money. He would make around $70k a year, and I'm guessing this is before paying taxes.

I tried to do this without knowing anything about how volume impacts a stock, and it was about a 50/50 wash for me. I can say I didn't lose a lot of money, but after taxes, it was probably a waste of time. Although extremely fun! You can see some of my trading around earnings in my Commonstock public portfolio if you go back a year. I will be passing this year.

The other great trader story from "Unkown Market Wizards" was about Chris Camillo who would use social media and trends from Google to invest in stocks. I highly recommend reading the book for that story alone. I'm sure Chris would have loved to use a platform like Commonstock for his research.
