I’m not one to comment and complain but this guy tried to run for president at one time lol. In regards to this Starbucks union issue has been going on for way to long. Union is not necessary. Starbucks is one of the best companies in the world to work for they pay high wages compared to other outlets they offer medical benefits to part time workers, stock grants and 401 k programs. They also give ample help as their is plenty of fellow coworkers. I’m not sure what people want. Seems like people will always complain. Idk anymore

So what is Bernie’s allegation? What labor law is he accusing SBUX of breaking?
Christian's avatar
@rpinvestments I wish I knew. Even the actual subpoena he posted didn’t mention specifically what labor law they are violating. Just a clown getting attention. Go worry about tik tok Bernie lol

@rpinvestments My guess is it's related to the firing of employees for union organizing activities that Starbucks was forced to rehire by federal judges. I haven't sought out the subpoena though.

All talk, Bernie is harmless.

So I’m a Starbucks shareholder but Howard Schultz isn’t exactly an awesome person and I’m not sure why we’re defending billionaires (and a billionaire who also tried to run for President for the record). Also not sure why we’re giving Starbucks credit for offering tuition assistance and 401k programs. Employers should treat employees better. Why are we against that?
Anyway, wasn’t Starbucks forced by a federal district court to re-hire seven Memphis workers who were fired after Starbucks learned of their union-organizing activities? Isn’t that a violation of NLRB laws?
And weren’t they forced by the NLRB to re-hire two Philadelphia workers who were fired in 2020 for were trying to launch union-organizing activities?
And weren’t they, just six days ago, ordered by a federal judge to re-hire a Detroit worker who the judge deemed was illegally fired for union-organizing activities?

There are more stories like these. I’d like to see Starbucks respond to questions about why they’re firing employees who want to unionize.

And FWIW, I’m not in a union, never have been, and I’m not the biggest fan of them (I don’t like the idea of being required to be in a union if I want to join certain companies or professions) but it’s clear Starbucks is breaking laws.

@interrobangbros not defending Howard more making fun of Bernie in the beginning lol. I mentioned those things because working for a coffee company and feeling the need to unionize makes no sense to me. Again as you can tell I’m not a fan of unions. I think there are way more negatives then positives. That’s why I feel so strongly about Starbucks not unionizing. Again has Starbucks broken the rule with the firing of employees over union attempts sure. I don’t know the rules regarding this.
Christian's avatar
@interrobangbros and I’m not trying to say this in an asshole way but why own the name if you don’t like Schultz or what the company is doing? I’m truly just asking. I’m not the most perfect investor and people are definitely smarter than me but yeah just why own then?

@interrobangbros anti-union activity is a serious allegation. That’s a good reason to file a lawsuit with SBUX
Christian's avatar
@rpinvestments definitely a serious allegation but can they prove it in court. Is there actually enough evidence. That’s where I don’t think so. All Starbucks has to do is show I’m fairly they treat employees and how and why those stores were shutdown. It’s a very hard case to prove if your trying to go down this path. Why do you think it’s been dragged on for years now

@christian7621 I've owned Starbucks for over 6 years, long before the union fighting became an issue (at least to my knowledge). I'm comfortable owning shares of a company even if they begin to misalign with my beliefs but that only lasts for so long. A great example is Tesla. I first bought back in 2017 and held as Elon became more and more of who he is today. Eventually in early 2022, I hit my limit and sold my shares. I didn't want anything to do with Tesla or Elon anymore. That could definitely happen with me and my Starbucks shares.

And we're on the same page with unions, mostly. I'm not the biggest fan... but I do believe the employees should have the right to decide if they want to unionize or not, as the law says they should, and so far Starbucks seems to be fighting that. Maybe I'm wrong. You know who could explain to me and many other people how Starbucks isn't actually fighting unionization? The CEO. I think his name is... Howard Schultz! Too bad he's refusing.
Steve Matt's avatar
@christian7621 I mean, the NLRB has proven in court that recent firings were anti-union driven. That's why at least three separate judges have forced Starbucks to re-hire those workers.
Christian's avatar
@interrobangbros that makes perfect sense. I figured you owned it for long. Definitely could happen like Tesla I do get that. Your right I don’t disagree with you there at all. Schultz should come out and say how they aren’t actually fighting it. I guess we will find out more next week. Again look at what I said to Ben up above very hard to prove
Christian's avatar
@interrobangbros I get that I do but I think it’s easy to defend if Starbucks actually had to. Maybe I’m wrong and maybe I’m blind to the fact that Starbucks ain’t doing the right thing but to me it seems pretty easy to defend but again I don’t know enough about that rules and regulations in regard to this and what has happened in the courts so far. I mostly have the media and any articles to help me
