Alpha returns for the alphas: Audacity in Investing
Of the nine Enneagram types, Type Eights may be the easiest to spot since they stand out from the pack – literally. These natural born leaders are motivated by their need to be stronger than others and overcome their environment through sheer willpower. For visual cues, picture the personalities of popular alpha leaders we know: Martin Luther King Jr., Winston Churchill, and Thanos, the Marvel supervillain who is hell-bent on accessorizing himself with the Infinity Stones to reset the universe.

Type Eight investors are perhaps the gutsiest of all Enneagram archetypes. Absent any compulsion to follow rules or hesitate, these alphas are always ready to pounce. With intense energy, they love big ideas and making large investments. Taking concentrated risks is more aligned with their innate qualities of bravado and self-belief.

Excellent ! This was the one I was most looking forward to reading because this was the personality type I thought would be the most antithetic to being a good investor. Type Eights have the drive to create the future reality they're seeking and will move heaven and earth to do so. As we know, the markets can't be controlled. Type Eights will have the greatest convictions on their beliefs, and those convictions might be immovable, despite market evidence to the contrary. "The market is obviously wrong" would be their catch cry when we know the market can be quite price efficient for the most part.
As you say "egotistical Type Eight investors can be obstinate in their views and refuse to consider external opinions, regardless of merits".
I should imagine Type Eights would need to adapt their behaviour for the markets and accept that outcomes can't be controlled, no matter how much influence they'd want to exert on the markets. They'd have to wear a different "hat" when they're investing and "do less" as you say ... accept the outcome is not fully within their control. That would be tough !

@jazziyoung Thank you for your thoughtful comments ! There is something to be said about their action-bias, self-belief, and willingness to delegate certain aspects of their personal investing to professionals. An experienced and grounded Type Eight investor can be astute, separating winners from losers without needing to get too much into the weeds. I believe every type can be good investors, and every type can be prone to different pitfalls too.

Type 8 investors do not usually take a nuanced view— my assumption is that in the long run this doesn't work out for investing. If they're lucky, they can make some huge moves and make a lot of money quickly... but it probably won't last.

@nathanworden Some alphas are also instinctive enough to enlist professional help (with counterbalancing traits) on their investing activities! And if something goes wrong, they will get chewed up and replaced !
