TikTok ban in US?
“Lawmakers voted 24 to 16 to approve the measure to grant the administration new powers to ban the ByteDance-owned app - which is used by over 100 million Americans - as well as other apps considered security risks.”
“TikTok has come under increasing fire in recent weeks over fears that user data could end up in the hands of the Chinese government, undermining Western security interests.”
“The fate of the latest measure is still uncertain and faces significant hurdles before it can become law. The bill would need to be passed by the full House and U.S. Senate, which is controlled by Democrats, before it can go to Biden.”

The last time talk like this happened didn’t $SNAP spike to $50+?
StockOpine's avatar
@averageinvestor don’t recall but can’t see this happening now.

@stockopine as a SNAP bag holder I (unfortunately) agree

I’m with it. It’s making us a dumber collective, without question.

Already angry at the opportunist politicians that hold this up for their own personal gain
StockOpine's avatar
@jensen it won’t be easy to pass this bill though. And what do you mean ‘dumber collective’? Doesn’t this apply to Instagram as well?

@stockopine absolutely. Their addictive nature are net negative and the marginal educational benefit that people convince themselves they get, and that some may be effectively utilizing them for, is massively drowned out by time-suck and mind numbing content (albeit entertaining, hence the addiction) that is without exaggeration making us dumber human beings. Look up the 60 minutes bit from last year covering how China is serving their people the Spinach version and us the opium. Perhaps a tad dramatic analogy but sparks thought…

Wow, game changer if true. Thanks for sharing!

@giuliano_mana indeed. Especially, for $META and $SNAP

Even without a ban TikTok has stagnated in the US. Likely going to continue ceding share to YT + Instagram
StockOpine's avatar
@ccm_brett but still one of the top apps in the US. A ban (a difficult outcome) will be a totally new story.

@ccm_brett Agree. The tide has started to shift for TikTok. Seems the other platforms got their product set ready to compete.

Things are heating up

@rihardjarc oh yes 🙌🏻

@stockopine Everyday I see new lawmakers talk about it and new articles popping up, now even in Europe...

@rihardjarc thanks for the update Rihard. Still a long way to go though.

@stockopine Seems we are close. But the sale seems more likely.

My goodness, 100 million just in the US? As in almost a third of all Americans are on TikTok? That is like Facebook ubiquity. I knew TikTok was growing fast, but that is getting close to total saturation levels. Mind blowing.

@nathanworden well. Look at this table (apptopia)
