All signs point to another crypto sell-off. Here’s how to prepare yourself for it…

Hey Jeff! Great post— to recap, you believe that crypto is headed lower in the short to medium term because:

  • Luna’s collapse caused a ripple effect that isn’t over. Bankruptcies like Voyager and Celsius mark the beginning, not the end of a bottoming process similar to how banks went belly up in 2008.

  • Monetary policy is not likely to become accommodative until October at the earliest.

  • Tether is another potential shoe to drop: with $66 billion worth of USDT in circulation today, it is one-sixth the size of bitcoin and one-third the size of Ethereum. Tether has yet to prove it’s 1-to-1 backing with the dollar, and the assets it does hold have market risk ties to them. With hedge funds starting to bet against Tether there could be a depegging.

  • If the crypto market went back up from here it would be the shortest bear market on record. It’s likely to last longer than a year.

Great points— I also saw you put out a piece on the Ethereum merge and are quite constructive in that— do you think the reduction in supply pressure that the Merge will create can overcome things like tight monetary policy, or will we have to wait for accommodative monetary policy to see the Merge’s full effect?
