So the TQQQ is a 3x leveraged version of the Nasdaq-100 index. Importantly, the 3x leverage is for daily performance. If you hold it longer than a day, it will meaningfully deviate from the target return. So right off the bat I'd say a lot of people don't hold it longer than a day.
So what do people use it for?
- Seeking magnified gains (will also magnify losses)
- Getting a target level of exposure for less cash
- Overweighting a market segment without additional cash
